About the Data Culture Institute
The Data Culture Institute (DCI) is a vendor-neutral institute advancing standards and models for data culture and governance intelligence.

Why a Data Culture Institute?
Governance fails most often for cultural reasons: incentives, behaviors, and informal norms overpower formal policy. Yet the field has lacked a shared, measurable way to discuss culture with the same rigor applied to data quality, metadata, and architecture. The Institute exists to close that gap.
Mission
Establish and steward vendor-neutral standards for measuring data culture and governance intelligence— enabling practitioners to assess maturity, trust, drift, and readiness for responsible AI.
Vision
A world where organizations can demonstrate data governance effectiveness with evidence—not slogans— and where culture is treated as a measurable, improvable capability.
What is Governance Intelligence?
Governance Intelligence is the discipline of converting governance telemetry into decision-grade insight: it unifies metadata (what exists), operational signals (what happened), and cultural indicators (why it happened) to assess governance effectiveness and adoption over time.
What is UFDCM?
The Usage & Flow Data Culture Model evaluates data culture along two observable dimensions: Usage (how widely governed data is used in decisions) and Flow (how fluidly data moves across teams and domains). Together they form four archetypes that make culture discussable, measurable, and actionable.
Governance model
The Institute operates through an advisory board and practitioner-led working groups. Standards evolve through transparent drafts, public review, and versioned releases (e.g., “UFDCM Standard v1.0”).
